The Metrics Project is about developing a simple, two-digit index that anyone can see at such a decision point. The index can be placed on packaging, included with a home listing, or be part of the advertising leading to a purchase.
In the information age we deal with numbers and statistics dozens of times a day.
Consumers will benefit from being able to make more informed choices with less effort; eco-friendly manufacturers will benefit by gaining a new way of reinforcing their environmental advantage over their competition. As other manufacturers strive to remain environmentally competitive, we all benefit from a more sustainable product life cycle.
The end goal is to bring us closer to ecological sustainability – voluntarily – by improving purchase behaviors and creating incentives for more environmentally sound product and service offerings.
